Muzaffarpur Institute of Technology was established in the year 1954. The Institute is academically governed by Aryabhatta Knowledge University, Patna which is the degree-awarding authority for the institute as B.Tech. and M.Tech. and is recognised by the A.I.C.T.E., New Delhi, and the Government of Bihar State. It is under the administrative control of department of science and technology and totally funded by the Government of Bihar. The institute offers Undergraduate and Postgraduate Programmes to the students.

Admission Process:
Muzaffarpur Institute of Technology (MIT Muzaffarpur) offers B.Tech, B.Pharm and M.Tech courses. Various branches in which B.Tech courses are offered include civil engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, information technology, electronics and communication and leather technology. The total number of seats offered under the undergraduate programmes is 290. Admission to B.Tech and B.Pharm is done on the basis of Bihar Combined Entrance Competitive Examination (BCECE) after which the candidates have to appear for the counselling process. Muzaffarpur Institute of Technology offers M.Tech in machine design and thermal engineering. Admission to these courses will be done on the basis of score obtained by the candidates is the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE). Admission processes for both undergraduate and postgraduate courses offered by Muzaffarpur Institute of Technology are listed below:
UG Programmes:
- Admission is made through Bihar Combined Entrance Competitive Examination (B.C.E.C.E.) conducted by Bihar Combined Entrance Competitive Examination Board.
- Candidates have to appear for the counselling process conducted by Bihar Combined Entrance Competitive Examination Board.
- Admission to MIT, Muzaffarpur will be done on the basis of candidates score in entrance exam and choices made by them during the counselling process.
PG Programmes:
- Admissions will be made through Gate Exam score.
- Candidates have to register online for participating in the counselling process (which is called Post Graduate Engineering Admission Counselling (PGECA)), enter the required information along with uploading the documents and paying the counselling fee.
- Admission will be made on the basis of score obtained by the candidates in GATE.
